Cineworks is an independent filmmakers society

Screening Room
Intersections
“Intersections” is a cross disciplinary project between a filmmaker and an artist of another discipline. Inspired by The Tomorrow Collective’s Brief Encounters, we are pairing together two creative minds from different artistic backgrounds to collaboratively produce a new moving image work to premiere online. Intersections 2012-2013 will feature 6 teams in total. Watch this space as these new short works by surprise artists are released.

Intersections is co-presented by Cineworks Independent Filmmakers Society and The Tomorrow Collective’s Brief Encounters.

THE PIT from Lauren Marsden on Vimeo.

** Official Selection 2013 Antimatter Film Festival, Official Selection 2014 Victoria International Film Festival

We set out to make a short horror film using only one location, no story and no actors. Using only camera movements, sound effects, and editing techniques, this experiment became an honest study of the horror genre, exposing many of the fundamental methods and conventions used to generate the horror effect.

What was, at one time, a habitat for polar bears in captivity, the pit is now a derelict concrete enclosure in the midst of the lush forests of Vancouver’s Stanley Park. In its abandoned state, we subjected this location to a series of “horror tests”. While entirely absent of character, script or plot, The Pit transforms a benign public space into a chilling world of fear and isolation.
